IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Michigan State coach Tom Izzo revealed Monday that freshman guard Gary Harris has had issues with his right shoulder in addition to the left shoulder sprain he suffered in November.Izzo said Harris' right shoulder also popped out in mid-December, a setback that likely affected his shooting and limited his aggressiveness on the boards.Harris took it a step further, saying both shoulders have popped out recently."Sometimes they pop out every now and then, and that's when I have to get back in and rehab," Harris said before MSU's game Thursday at Iowa, "but for the most part they're better than they were before."In the first half of Thursday's 62-59 win, Harris' left shoulder popped out on a pick from Iowa's Eric May. After sitting for a few minutes, he returned to the game and ended up with 14 points in 34 minutes. "It hurt," said Harris after the game, a giant ice pack on the left shoulder, "but there was no doubt I was coming back in."Harris and Izzo both said they don't believe Harris will need surgery on either shoulder in the off-season. He is putting in extra work with MSU trainer Quinton Sawyer to try to strengthen both of them."I just plan on continuing to get them stronger and not having surgery," Harris said. "When they pop out now, it's not as bad every time they pop out. I can just take a little time off and get right back in and feel like it never happened."Asked after the game if he's worried about constant problems with the shoulders, Harris said: "I can't worry about it."FOOTBALL NOTE: MSU announced it will begin spring football practice March 19 and the spring game will be at 1 p.m. April 20.

Ryan was let go after the Cowboys missed the postseason for a third consecutive year. His firing ends a two-year tenure with the team.
Under Ryan's tutelage, the Cowboys ranked among the league's top 20 total defenses, placing 14th in 2011 but slipping to 19th in 2012, perhaps in large part as a result of injuries to many of Dallas' key defensive players.
Ryan becomes the second casualty of the Cowboys' coaching staff. Running backs coach Skip Peete was fired on Monday. |
